Since we have learned about the dangers of COVID-19, we have been quarantined 40 days. I have become (an unwanted) expert at Zoom, FaceTime, and Google Duo. Things are changing almost daily about our future. How are people going to work, play, interact after a solution is found?
Some people have used this time of isolation for improvements: cleaning house, reconnecting with loved ones, exercising, creating healthy food, learning new skills, etc. I have moved from feeling sorry for myself, to loving the isolation, to hating the isolation, to creating a daily schedule so I don't get completely/further out-of-whack, to feelings/ moods changing constantly, etc. etc. etc.
I AM LEARNING:
It helps to meditate every day. I was never "good" at this, but realized you don't have to be "good". Your mind is used to wandering, and you just need to bring it back to where you are, it is great to work on the elasticity of your mind and to practice bringing things back in focus. Focus on your breathing-your mind will follow.
I am trying to learn Spanish. I have always said, "I don't have time" and now there is no excuse.
I am trying to read every day. It is so much easier to Google or watch TV, but I am also trying to increase patience with myself, and learn to read something I enjoy daily. I've had a pile of books on my nightstand for years, so once again, no excuses.
I hope throughout this unknown certainty, you will be kind to yourself. It is important to show kindness, we always are told this, but be kind to yourself also. Have patience with yourself, you are learning how to cope like a child learns new things. This is new for all of us.
